Harold F. Simon, Sr

CSM (R) Simon was a devoted father, brother, and friend who passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at age 77. He was born March 5, 1948, in Georgetown, Guyana, South America. As a young man, he migrated to the United States. His strong work ethic characterized his life’s expedition. At a young age, he joined the United States Army, setting out on an extraordinary service journey that spanned 30 years of Active Duty. He retired in April 1999.

During his career, CSM (R) Simon served in various assignments in the continental United States and overseas. Highlights include Command Sergeant Major (31Z5H), Communications Operations Chief (31G4X), Tactical Communications Chief (31V40), UL Communications Maintenance, and Drill Sergeant.

His military training included USA Sergeant Major Academy, First Sergeant Course, Tactical Joint Communications (TRI-TMC), Organization Effectiveness Circle School, Leadership and Management Development Course (L&MDC) Trainer’s Course, Principles and Technical Quality Circle Management Process Course, Tactical Communication System Operations Mechanical Course, Tactical Electrical EQ ANCOC, NCOES, Principles of Counseling Course, and Managing Management Time Course. His civilian education included a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Psychology from Columbia College, Columbia, Missouri, and a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

After his retirement, CSM (R) Simon remained involved in the community, serving as President of the Belair Hill Estates Home Owners Association, Chairman of the City of Augusta Personnel Board, Chairman of the Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board, and President of the Greater Augusta Chapter of Blacks in Government.

CSM (R) Simon’s decorations, medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons awarded include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal (10th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), and Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge.

CSM (R) Simon is preceded by his father, Nathaniel Augustus Adman, and his mother, Olive Agatha Simon. He is survived by his wife, Sonja; sons Harold, Jr (Yuka), Michael, Maurice, and Paul; daughter, Cindy; sisters, Susan, Cleopatra (Danny), Aloma, Alona, and Goldia; Cecil and Alford; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, sisters-in law, and brothers-in-law. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and patriot who will be missed profoundly by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on June 2, 2025, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Attendees are requested to be there by 10:10 a.m.
