Glenda Barrett Bull

February 21, 1942 — October 19, 2021

Glenda Barrett Bull, 79, of Evans, Georgia entered into rest on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Doctors Hospital from complications of Covid-19.

Glenda was born in Rome, Georgia to Allie “Bee” Barrett Sechrest and the late Andy Lee Barrett. She was a graduate of Columbus High School and went on to graduate in 1964 from Wesleyan College in Macon, where she remained one of the school’s most faithful supporters and recruiters. She began her music teaching career at Tubman Junior High and the Academy of Richmond County in Augusta. She went on to retire from Westside High School after 30 years of teaching music and chorus in 1995. Following retirement, she continued her devotion to education and music by being a substitute teacher in both the Columbia and Richmond county school systems and also teaching piano lessons in her home until 2019. Her success as a music educator led her to being nominated and awarded the WJBF Golden Apple Award. Music was her passion, and her greatest pride and joy, besides her family, was seeing her former students succeed in their life pursuits.

Glenda was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where she had served as a former music director for many years, was actively involved in the choir, Sunday School, and VBS. She also served as the music director at Open Door Baptist Church and attended the First Baptist Church of Augusta. She was a proud member of the Joy Girls, the Wesleyan Great Green Knights of ’64, and a former member of the Georgia Music Educators Association. She was also an avid bowler.

Glenda was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Millard Edward Bull; father, Andy Lee Barrett; and step-father, Robert Paul Sechrest.

She is survived by her son, Millard Barrett “Barry” Bull (Shannon); her mother and best friend, Bee Sechrest; two grandsons and the apples of her eye, Stephen Barrett Bull and Shane Alexander Bull; step sisters, Joy Sechrest Allen and Gail Sechrest Thompson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Glenda is also survived by her feline companion, Muffett; her grand-dog, Abby; and the many students that would not be where they are today without her love and dedication.

The family will receive friends from 6-9:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Platt’s on Belair Road in Evans.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Joseph Christie, Stephen Bull, Mark Frazier, Robbie Harrell, Tommy McBride and Tony McClendon.

Glenda’s life and service will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Reverend Floyd Harrison III officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
