Gerhild Scheuing Holland

May 28, 1935 — August 2, 2024

Gerhild Scheuing Holland (Jenny) our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her family on August 2, 2024 at the age of 89. 

 Gerhild was born in Frankfurt, Germany on May 28, 1935 and was the daughter of Walter and Victoria Scheuing. 

 She is preceded in death by her brother Ernie, cousin Eric, his wife Hannalore, daughter Patricia, grandson Corey, grand-daughter Jenny. 

 Gerhild is survived by her daughter Virginia (Alan), son Eric (Sharon), son Michael, daughter Victoria (Rob) daughter Pamela (Ken); Grandchildren, Krystina (Lance), Jonathan (Shena), Christian (Kristen), Zackary (Chelsea), Anthony, Cameron (Mint), Sarah, Joshua (Adrienne), Emily; Great-Grandchildren, Aerith, Landon, Watson, Eevee, Aiden, Zoralea, Noah, Kaleigh, Audrey, Khloie, Kyler, Bristol, Jasmine, Nora, Hayden, Aven, Kinlee, Aspen and Braelynn; Extended family members, Michael (Gudren), Sebastian, Josie, Martina, John, Theresa, Johnny, Bobby, Betsy Lou and many more. 

 Gerhild attended Bismarck High School in Frankfurt, Germany and was the president of her class in 1951. She graduated with honors on March 31, 1952 and became an apprentice at Brugelman & Sons until 1954. She then worked as a secretary for Gemeinwirtschaft Bank until 1958. 

 Gerhild moved to the United States in 1959 and received her Certificate of Naturalization on December 13, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland 

She then moved to Martinez, Georgia as a housewife/mother and worked part-time at Sears, Roebuck and Co. as a teletypist. She attended Phillips College in Augusta, Georgia, gave the Valedictorian Address and received her Associate Degree in Secretarial Science in February of 1979. She then obtained her Legal Assistant/Paralegal Certificate/Notary Public Appointment and worked for the Cooney Law Firm for 26 years. She also worked part-time as a tax specialist for H&R Block for seven years. 

 Gerhild was involved in many organizations such as the American Business Women's Association from 1977 through 1993. She was elected and installed as president in 1980. She was awarded Woman of the Year in 1984. 

She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church and assisted with the social ministry committee. She sponsored five children through the Holy Land Christian Mission International until they became adults. 

 Gerhild bowled on a league with ABWA, Phillips College and Brunswick Recreation from 1982-1989. Many trophies received. 

 Gerhild ran track and starred in many plays during high school. She loved the ocean, opera, dancing, sowing, cooking, having get-togethers especially at Christmas, reading books, puzzles, arts and crafts, traveling, shopping, playing tennis, dinner theaters, her kitty cats but most of all her children. She was always there for them no matter what. She was truly an extraordinary woman and will be greatly missed. 

The family will receive friends at Platts Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel on August 10, 2024 from 2-3 pm. A memorial service will follow with Pastors Andrea and Jason Peterson officiating. 

The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude to Empyrean Hospice for the care that Gerhild received. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
