Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Hatfield, 82, of Grovetown, GA, went home to be with his Savior on March 27, 2026, in Augusta, GA.
Jerry never stopped moving and lived life to the fullest from the day he was born on April 9, 1943, in Fairmont, WV, to Glenn and Hazel Hatfield. He attended Fairmont High School. On December 30, 1961, he married the love of his life, a redheaded beauty, Sally Hatfield, in Fairmont, WV. They were two teenagers who fell in love and remained devoted to one another for over 65 years.
Jerry loved the open road. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a truck driver, and he fulfilled that passion for more than 50 years, working for multiple companies before retiring from Airgas.
Jerry became a Christian as an adult and loved being in church. He believed deeply in serving and giving to others and was an active member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.
Jerry never met a stranger. He loved talking with family, friends, and anyone he encountered, sharing conversations about life, politics, and West Virginia University football.
Above all, Jerry loved his family. His greatest joy was having everyone gathered at his home—sharing a meal around the table and then spending time together in the living room, laughing and connecting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Hatfield; his children and their spouses, Lori and Troy Ledwig, Gina and Dennis Farrer, and Jeremy and Lydia Hatfield; his grandchildren and their spouses, Josh Parrish, Justin and Hannah Farrer, Caitlyn and Dylan Reddish, Cassidy and Kameron Stampley, Ethan Hatfield, and Rebekah Hatfield; and his great-grandchildren, Luke Farrer, Theo Reddish, and Kayden Stampley.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on April 26, 2026 with visitation one hour prior to time of service, at Sweetwater Baptist Church, with Dr. Paul W. Noe officiating.
