George “Robert” Perry, Jr. passed away on February 19, 2026, in Appling, Georgia, at the age of 88. Born on May 18, 1937, in McDonough, Georgia. Robert was a devoted father and Papa who cherished time spent with his family. He led a life marked by dedication and service. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and earned an engineering degree at Ga Tech. After completing his education, Robert embarked on a successful career as a Mechanical Engineer with Georgia Power Company. He was a dedicated Shriner and a member of the Ga Power Ambassador’s Club. His work contributed to the community and exemplified his commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of engineering.
Robert had a rich family life that brought him so much joy. He is survived by his daughter Sylvia Dennis, and son James “Jimmy” Perry. He was a cherished grandfather to Richard Thornton (Ashleigh), Stacey Thornton (Stephen), Sarah Dennis (Tristen), and Allison Maddox (Chandler), as well as a proud great-grandfather to Skyler Wolfe, Kennedy Thornton, and Holley Wolfe. His familial bonds extended further through his beloved sister, Millie Lunsford (Bob), and brother, David Perry (Charlene). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, George Robert Perry, Sr. and Emma Grace Greer Perry, his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Sylvia Born Perry, and sisters, Betty Grace Merritt and Mary Sue Johnson.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He showed unconditional love, taught us to be strong, and was always the person you could count on. He never hesitated to help anyone in need. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
The community is invited to gather in Robert’s memory. A visitation will be held on February 27, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Platt's Funeral Home in Evans, GA. A memorial service will take place the following day, February 28, 2026, at West Acres Baptist Church in Evans, GA, starting at 2:00 PM.
George Robert Perry, Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his professional contributions, and his service to country.
