Everett Russell Payne

Everett Payne, 83, of Washington, DC, passed away on 12-30-2024 in Hephzibah, GA. 

 Everett was born in Washington, DC to Susan Marshall and Vasco Snow Payne on 14 February 1941. 

 He worked as a career soldier in the Army for 30 years before he retired. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Silver Star Medal. 

 He contributed to the preservation of the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park where he has walked hundreds of miles taking his almost daily walks. 

 Everett is survived by his sons Robert and Marcel, his daughter Janet, granddaughter Maeve, his sister Jean, his brother Wayne and numerous nephews and nieces.

 We give great thanks to Glenda for helping us through the grieving process.

 In leu of flowers, it is requested to make a contribution to the Phiziny Swamp Nature Park.

 Memorial services will be held at 2 pm, 8 January 2024 at Platts Funeral Home on 721 Crawford Avenue in Augusta, GA.
