Eulalia Webb Mrs. Hodge

November 21, 1926 — November 3, 2009

Martinez, GA – Eulalia Webb Hodge, 82, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at her residence, surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Martinez United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Shelfer officiating.

Mrs. Hodge was born in Leslie, Sumter County, Georgia, on November 21, 1926. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia State College and University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in physical education. She then completed her post-graduate certification for physical therapy credentialing at the University of Iowa. Mrs. Hodge initially worked as a staff physical therapist at the Veterans’ Hospital in Chamblee, GA, prior to her marriage in 1951 to Paul Howard Hodge, Jr., then a commissioned officer with the U.S. Army. The couple first lived in Berkeley, CA, before enjoying overseas tours to Europe and several residences in the States. She moved to the Augusta area in 1967.

As an Army wife and mother, Mrs. Hodge was a dedicated volunteer; Sunday School teacher, room mother, Girl Scout Leader, organized children’s sports coach, and general neighborhood play organizer for her children and their friends. Dedicated to her family and her church, she also enjoyed lifelong learning and championing of life’s causes for those in need, both animal and human. She returned to a paid work role as a registered physical therapist when her children entered high school, and was employed at University Hospital in Augusta until her retirement after 34 years in 2004, as the Director of Rehabilitation Services.

Mrs. Hodge had been an active member of Martinez United Methodist Church since 1967, where she sang in the choir, taught children’s Sunday School, and held various leadership positions throughout the years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Paul Howard Hodge, Jr., and one sister, Lenoir Webb Shiver. Survivors include one sister, Marguerite Webb Corr, of Albany, GA; two children: Susan Hodge Pretty, of Charleston, SC, and Windsor Webb Hodge, of Martinez; two grandchildren: Windsor Adam Hodge and Raven Morgaine Hodge, both of Martinez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Martinez United Methodist Church [3614 Washington Road, Martinez, GA]; the “Wilson-Webb Scholarship Fund” at The Methodist Home for Children and Youth [P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA 31203]; or to a charity of choice.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, November 7, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
