Mrs. Ethel B. Hale, age 95, of Augusta, Georgia passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Keysville Nursing Home in Keysville, Georgia.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, Mrs. Hale was born on April 27, 1930 the daughter of the late Solomon C. and Mary Ann Spires Busch. She was the oldest living member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Trenton, SC. Mrs. Hale enjoyed watching hummingbirds, loved baking for her friends and family and before ill health, she was active with the Seaman’s Ministry of Charleston, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Lawton Powell, Jr in 1970, by her second husband, Vernon Lee Hale in 2005, by a son, Charles Powell and by one brother and five sisters and also her grandson, Donnie Powell. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Hale was employed with the Augusta City Schools as a crossing guard for many years and was also employed with Robert’s Dry Cleaning.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Roxanne Padgett. One son and daughter in law, Donald and Connie Powell. One sister, Mrs. Virginia Davis. Six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren along with a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services for Mrs. Hale will be conducted on Friday April 17, 2026 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home 721 Crawford Ave, Augusta, Georgia with Rev. Paul Noe officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot of the West View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Trenton, SC.
