Elise Marie McDaniel, affectionately known as Marie, Mama Rie, and Nanners to her family and friends, passed away on July 21, 2026.
Born in Augusta, Georgia, Marie was one of seven children of Ralph Cliatt and Elsie Newman Cliatt. She grew up in the Augusta area and later lived in Hayesville, North Carolina, and Palmetto, Florida. In 1961 she married the love of her life, George Clayton McDaniel. They were married for 37 years until his death in 1998.
Marie was a woman of strong faith and a lifelong member of Clifford Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was active in the church, singing in the choir, directing the youth choir, and occasionally playing the piano when needed. She loved being with family, playing the piano, baking, and gardening. She had a true heart for hospitality and made friends wherever she went. Marie took great joy in teaching recipes and music to her grandchildren. She will be forever remembered for her gift of hospitality.
Marie is survived by her sons, George Michael McDaniel (Antonella), John Burton McDaniel (Kimberly), and Jefferson Scott McDaniel; her sisters, Joyce Goodbread (Earl), Janice Odom (Gary), and Libby Young; her grandchildren, Anna, Clay, Cassie, Dylan, Alyssa, and Curt; and her great-grandchildren, Mila and Daniel.
In addition to her husband, George, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Elsie Cliatt, and her brothers, Chuck Cliatt, Jimmy Cliatt, and Mark Cliatt.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Clifford Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George James officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Neskorik, Bruce Cliatt, Durwood Turner, Brian Young, Jimmy Goodbread, Kevin Goodbread, Jeffrey Cliatt, and Chea Cliatt. Honorary pallbearers are Dawn Mathews and Tim Parker.
If so desired, memorials may be made to Clifford Memorial Presbyterian Church at 110 East Robinson Avenue, Grovetown, GA 30813.
