Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” McCaleb Johnston, entered into rest on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

Betty was born on March 10, 1925, in Huntsville, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Shelby and Clara McCaleb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Bart, and her brothers, Wesley and Shelby McCaleb.

Betty attended school in Huntsville and graduated from Vanderbilt University and did post graduate work at the University of Houston and Sam Houston University. She was a school librarian in Baytown, Texas, where she lived for over thirty years. After Bart’s retirement from Exxon, he and Betty moved back to Huntsville. In 1997, they moved to Evans, Georgia to Brandon Wilde Life Care Community, where she chaired the library committee for 10 years.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth “Cris” Bright (James), William “Bill” Johnston (Norma), Patricia “Pattie” Johnston (Jack Healing), her grandchildren, Margaret Amores (George), Katherine D’Antonio, James Bright (Stephanie), Robert Johnston (Irina), Michael Johnston (Savana), Kimberly Healing (Joshua Immergluck), and Jami Healing (Robert), and her great grandchildren, Christian Amores, Kaitlyn Amores, Avery D’Antonio, Evelyn D’Antonio, Wyatt Bright, Jolene Bright, Charlotte Johnston, Lucy Johnston, Ada Johnston, Bailey Orona and Banks Orona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that instead you honor Betty’s memory with a donation to Covenant Presbyterian Church at www.covenantaugusta.org.
