Earl E. Gambrell, 88, of Martinez, husband of Delores Gambrell, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at Stephens Park Nursing Home in Augusta.
Mr. Gambrell was born October 25, 1935, in Honea Path, South Carolina, to the late William and Mary Frances Gambrell. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and two tours in Vietnam where he earned the Soldier’s Medal and a Bronze Star among other honors. After retiring from the Army, he worked 20 years for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He also served as a State Union Steward during this time. Mr. Gambrell enjoyed working on cars, being outdoors, gardening, and mostly spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren.
He was a devout Christian who deeply loved serving God in any way he could.
Mr. Gambrell is survived by his wife of 58 years Delores, his sons, Walt Gambrell (Tonya), and Stephen Gambrell (Denise); and grandchildren, Chelsea Holley (Michael), Mason Gambrell and Ashlynn Gambrell; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Manning Gambrell (Marty); and a sister, Sudie Francoeur. He also had many other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, March 11, 2024, at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road Location located at 337 N. Belair Rd., Evans, GA 30809.
Graveside Services with full military honors will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 3:30 PM, at West View Cemetery with Pastor Barry Clanton and Pastor Phil Winsett officiating.
