Dr. Ronald W. Bowers

December 10, 1941 — October 18, 2022

Dr. Ronald W. Bowers, 80, of Augusta, GA, passed away on October 18, 2022.

Dr. Bowers was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 10, 1941 to Paul and Dorothy Bowers. One of his first great accomplishments was becoming an Eagle Scout an achievement that he was very proud of. He was a 1959 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and then attended Emory University where he graduated in 1965 with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. After an internship with Florida Institutional Dental Service, he started a private dental practice in 1966. He took pride in his practice and cherished his patients. During Vietnam, he served as a Captain in the United States Army Reserves.

He was a former president of the Augusta Dental Society, Eastern District Dental Society of Georgia, he was an honorable fellow and lifelong member of the Georgia Dental Association along with being past member of the House of Delegates. He was a life member of the American Dental Association, and member emeritus of the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice since 2004. He served as the Annual Meeting Chairman for the Georgia Dental Association and was on the Richmond County Board of Health from 1990-2003.

Ronald previously served on many local boards and was active in the community. He was a former President of the Augusta Symphony League; former Chairman of Salvation Army Advisory Board; past member of the Augusta Symphony, Summerville Neighborhood Association, East Central Georgia Health Systems Agency, the Georgia Statewide Health Coordinating Committee, the Augusta Country Club, Pinnacle Club of Augusta, and Green Boundary Club.

In 1960, Ronald married the love of his life, Nancy Lee Heath. Together, they welcomed four children, Ronald William (Angie) Bowers, Jr., Elizabeth Bowers (Whitney) Reader, Barton Bentley Bowers, and Bennett Peyton Randolph (Amy) Bowers. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Thomas Heath McNally, John Peyton McNally, Hillyer Brinson Bowers, Sadie Callaway Bowers, Ava Elinor Bowers, Ramsey Peyton Bowers and a great-grandson, Jay Riley McNally. He was blessed with 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Linda Bowers (Jerry) Hardin, Danni Bowers (Honorable Tom) Varlan, Kelly Bowers (Barry) Kaye; sister-in-law, Donna Heath King and 12 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime friend and loyal assistant, Sandy Williams. He was predeceased by his parents and his daughter-in-law, Rebekah Bowers.

To know Ronald is to know dedication. He never did anything half-way and enjoyed the finer things in life. He loved cooking, entertaining and broadening his culinary knowledge. He also enjoyed collecting antiques, shopping, and traveling. He enjoyed reading and was a student of history – particularly with Winston Churchill and Napoléon. Ronald was a quick wit and had a fierce sense of humor. Christmas was not a day or even just a season, the spirit of Christmas lived in him throughout the year and those around him felt that joy.

Continuing his dedication to the community, Ronald was dedicated to his church, St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. He served for two years as the Finance Chairman and was a Parish Council member and member of the Worship Commission. He was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and was a Knight Grand Cross (KGCHS).
