Dr. Judy Inez Orosz walked with her Lord and Savior into her heavenly home on August, 25, 2025.
She was born on July 16, 1945 in Woodbury, Ga, the only child of Inez Brown Orosz and the late SGT Joseph Michael Orosz, who was killed in WW2 four months before her birth. At the age of 6 weeks, she and her mother moved from the home of her maternal aunt, Florine B Keith, to Thomaston, Ga, where she lived with her maternal grandparents, Charles and Estelle Brown, and aunts Della and Mary Brown. At the age of 13, she moved with her mom to Decatur, Ga, where she was an honor graduate of Decatur High School in 1963.
Judy attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and graduated from Georgia State University in 1967 where she was elected to Beta Beta Beta Honor Biological Society. Judy graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine in 1971, and completed her Internship at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN in 1972, followed by a Pediatric Residency at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital where she was Chief Resident. In August 1974, Dr. Orosz opened her practice in Cartersville, Ga. In August 1979, Dr. Orosz returned to Augusta, Ga as a staff physician at Gracewood State School and Hospital, then joined the pediatric faculty at MCG as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Assistant Pediatric Coordinator.
In February 1986, Dr. Orosz traveled to Mano River, Liberia for a 3 week mission trip with Ga Baptists, and on return she resigned from MCG to begin mission service in Africa. She served with the International Mission Board of Southern Baptist Convention (FMB) again in Mano River, Liberia, and then at Eku Baptist Hospital in Eku, Nigeria from 1987-88. In July 1989, Dr. Orosz entered Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY, and in April 1991 was appointed by SIM (Serving In Mission, Charlotte, NC), to Egbe Hospital in Egbe, Nigeria as a medical missionary. She served her second term at Euangel Hospital in Jos, Nigeria, where she trained house officers in pediatrics at both hospitals until June 1996. She returned to the USA to become caretaker for her mother and aunts, and began working at Fort Gordon. She retired from Connelly Health Clinic at Fort Gordon in November 2012. Dr. Orosz is survived by 12 maternal cousins, 6 paternal cousins, and her four legged constant companion, Bo.
Funeral Services will be held in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta at 11 AM on Friday, September 19, 2025 with Rev. Dr. Molly T. Marshall and Dr. Will Dyer officiating. A special thank you to caregiver Ciera Drayton, Nurse Taylor, and Case Manager Heather of Trinity Hospice. Interment will be at Southview Cemetery in Thomaston, Ga on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with Rev. Robert Crowe officiating.
