Doyle Leon Powers, 92, passed away on May 21. 2026 in Evans, GA. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Macon, GA. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:30 PM prior to the service.
Doyle was born in Dooly County to the late Felton Margaret Fraser Powers and Noah Alexander Powers. Also preceding him in death include a sister, Helen Powers Herndon, five brothers, Jack Powers, Harold Powers, Samuel "Sam" Powers, Edward "Ed" Powers, and James "Marvin" Powers, and granddaughter, Alyssa Faith Scarbary.
Doyle grew up on a farm in Dooly County. He graduated from Dooly High School in Vienna and attended Mercer University in Macon, GA. He was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, and an Army veteran serving during the Vietnam war. He owned several grocery stores for many years in Macon, GA and helped serve his community where he was fondly known as "Mr. Thrifty," after the name of his grocery store. Doyle was known for his strong work ethic, and after selling the last business, he began working at Walmart on Zebulon Road. He first worked in the meat department and after his health declined, as a greeter; so many family members, friends, and community members loved his smile and conversation. He finally retired and stopped working full time in 2020 at the age of 86.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Lullene Walker Powers of Evans; and daughters Pamela Powers Peer-Floyd (Marcus) of Hiawasee and Janice Powers Scarbary (Paul) of Augusta, GA. He has four grandchildren Mark McLeskey of Milledgeville, Brittany VanGalder (Daniel) of Marietta, Tyler Scarbary of Augusta, and Angelyn Munson (Chris) of Lexington, SC. He has three great-grandchildren Jordyn VanGalder and Daniel "Lee" VanGalder Il, both of Marietta, GA and Naomi Munson of Lexington, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. Condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of Platt's Funeral Home and Crematory in Augusta, GA.
