Donald Gerald West

Donald G. West (MSGT/US Air Force RET), entered into rest on Thursday, May 29, 2025 in Augusta, GA. He lived a long and colorful life, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. 

Donald was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Ralph and Josephine West . He joined the Air Force as a young man and honorably served for more than 22 years as a flight engineer, travelling to all corners of the world and retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Donald also had a rich personal life. He met his loving wife, Josephine Blommer, in 1957. They were joyously married for nearly 60 years until her death in 2016. Together, they had seven children, thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Happy memories of camping, fishing, and stories of good-hearted pranks will comfort his surviving children: Mark West (Beverly, RIP), Sharon Fausnight (Joseph), Karen Workman (Eric), Cynthia Sigler (Neil), Joseph West (Michelle), Laura Smelley (Ronald, RIP) and Donald West (Juliet); his brother, Terrance West (Diane); his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Preceding Donald in death were his parents and two brothers, Richard West (Helen) and James West (Charlene.) 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 27, 2025 at the Platt’s Funeral Home chapel, 337 N. Belair Rd., Evans, GA. His ashes will be interred the following day beside those of his dearly departed wife, Josephine, in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, GA.
