Chief Warrant Officer 3 (retired) Derrill Franklin Deal passed into eternal life April 18, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Derrill was born in Tamassee, South Carolina, April 22, 1930, the second child to Herschel Albert and Grace Crowe Deal. He proudly served more than twenty years in the United States Army, which included tours to Germany, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. After his retirement, he enjoyed a second career as a stone mason, a building contractor, and a small business owner. Derrill was married to his love, Faye Lenora Russell, for more than sixty-three years.
He is survived by three children, Michael (Janice) Deal, Sandra (Mike) Carraway, and Derrill Deal Junior; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Ollie Waller and Dottie Daniel. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harold Deal, sister, Audrey Baty, and his son, Kyle (Robin) Deal.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the doctors and healthcare staff of Eisenhower Hospital, Dr. Richard Melcher, and Anita Dunson and Deedy Riley of St Joseph Hospice. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Highlands Memorial Park, Highlands, North Carolina. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
