Listen to Obituary

Mr. David William Edwin Smith, beloved husband of Andrea Joan Schwalm, entered into rest on Friday, March 27, 2026. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

David was one of four children born to Homer Edwin and Edith Marie Ringbom in Niagara Falls, New York. The family later settled in Rochester, where he and his siblings grew up. After graduating from Churchville Chili High School in 1961, David answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. His years in the service reflected the deep sense of duty and commitment that would guide him throughout his life.

While home on leave one Christmas, fate intervened. As he drove a young woman named Andrea and her friends on a caroling outing, the two felt an immediate connection. It was love at first sight. Andrea soon became the love of his life, and on March 27, 1965, they married, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, companionship, and cherished memories.

During his Navy service, David trained as an Electronics Technician, gaining the technical skills that would shape his professional path. After completing his service, he built a long and respected career in industry, working at Eastman Kodak, Occidental Chemical, and the Savannah River Site, among others. He became an expert in computer‑aided design and drafting (CADD) and took great pride in his work, continuing his career with dedication until the age of 81.

In addition to his wife, Andrea, he is survived by his children: Donna Lynn Smith, Darlene Ruth Smith Golden (Shannon), David Andrew Ringbom Smith (Susan), Adam Michael Smith (Heather), and Aaron Christopher Smith (Craig); his grandchildren: Joshua David, Rebekah, Hannah, Zachary, Alexandria, Ashley, Tyler, Nicholas, Emily, Abigail, Ivy, Conrad, Sophia, Brandon, Justin, Ryan, Erica, Adam Wolfgang, Adrien, and Liam; his great-grandchildren: Yanni, Ysabella, Stella, Jaxon Matthew David, Logan, Raiz, Nora, Edward, Mason, Avery, and Topaz; his brother, Stephen Smith (Stella), and his sisters, Margaret Schur (Ralph) and Kris Wolski (Jon); numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Dolly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Edith; his sister-in-law, Mary; and his grandchildren, Matthew and Ciara.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Tunnels to Towers, American Red Cross, Shepeard Community Blood Center, and the ASPCA.
