David Lee Welch passed away peacefully at his home on November 20, 2022 in Harlem, Ga at the age of 60.
Dave was born in Radford, Virginia to William and Marjorie Welch on March 8, 1962. He went to school at Pulaski County High School. He married Sherry Weems on May 13, 1995 in Augusta, Georgia. His devotion and love for Sherry was amazing, Together they traveled many miles on his motorcycle, alone and also with dear friends.
Dave was a true enthusiast and lover of all things Harley Davidson. From an early age Dave built and worked on not only motorcycles but progressed through his career to fabricating and welding. He enjoyed time spent with loved ones, sharing his knowledge and helping anyone wherever needed. He had a heart of gold.
Dave succeeded in many career fields during his lifetime including material handling at Radford Arsenal, he welded rail cars for CSX at Hamburg, built stainless steel food handling equipment at Luker, Inc., and fabricated custom designed mobility chairs at Eagle Parts and Products. The highlight of his career was teaching welding at Augusta Technical College after he earned his degree in Welding and Joining Technology. He guided students from basic skills to licensed fabricators and welders.
As a child, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts of America. He grew up to be a lover of nature and a skillful caretaker of the land he lived on. Dave was a talented storyteller and was never short on tales from his life to make those around him laugh.
Dave is preceded in death by his Grandparents Oak and Helen Welch and Milton and Christine Jackson, his father William Welch, his Stepfather Roger “Hop” Kegley, and his brother Rod Kegley.¬¬¬¬¬¬
Dave is survived by his wife, Sherry of Harlem, his daughter Amy Christine Lane and her husband Scott of Virginia, his mother Marjorie Kegley of Virginia, his brother Curtis Welch and his wife Lacy of Florida, Aunt Sue Miles of Virginia, treasured in-laws and extended family and friends in Georgia, former wife Lisa Lawson of Virginia, beloved step siblings in Virginia as well as half siblings in Florida, and dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation will be 12:00 on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Platt’s Funeral Home in Evans, Georgia. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm followed by fellowship with the family at the funeral home.
Reverend Tula Henson will officiate.
