Daniel Monroe Mcalhany

February 17, 1922 — March 5, 2010

Daniel Monroe McAlhany, Sr. entered into heaven March 5, 2010 at the age of 88. Dan was born in Augusta, GA on February 17, 1922 to Clarence Hair and Marsha Connor Hair. He was the adopted son of D.B. and Hettie McAlhany.

Dan worked at Harison Gulley Chevrolet of Augusta and Franklin Chevrolet in Statesboro, Ga. He worked in Chevrolet parts departments for 40 years. He retired from Milton Ruben Chevrolet in 1996.

Dan served in the Coast Guard during World War II in both the Caribbean and the South Pacific. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation medal with a bronze star.

Dan was a long time member of Warren Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was an active member of the Martinez Masonic Lodge #710, F and AM, and the Clarence H. Cohen daylight #749, F and AM. Dan was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was the first 60 year member of the Martinez Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Charles Hair, Judge Carl Hair, and Billy Hair and a half brother Clarence Hair, Jr.

Dan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jenny L. McAlhany, a son Dan Jr. (Clara) of Evans, and a daughter Kay Rexer (Fred) of Grovetown. He is also survived by a half brother, Emile Hair, and a half-sister Darlene Decote both of Montezuma, GA. Poppa Dan will be missed by 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Volunteers Sunday School class, deacons of Warren Baptist Church, and members of Masonic Lodge 710.

Visitation will be at Platts Funeral Home on Belair Road, Evans, Georgia, Monday March 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Funeral services will be at Warren Baptist Church, Tuesday March 9th at 2:00 PM.

Memorials may be sent to Warren Baptist Church Mission Fund.
