Crystal Monds Willis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Crystal Monds Willis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community. Crystal passed away on April 6, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 71. She was born in Wayne County, North Carolina, and grew up in Dublin, Georgia. She is survived by her loving husband, John Willis; daughter, Laura Ormes (Jeremiah); stepsons, William Willis (Gillian) and Andrew Willis (Lindsey); mother, Christine Bell Howell; siblings, Deborah Davis (Bill), Lisa Monds, and David Monds; grandchildren, Isabella and Hudson Ormes; step-grandchildren, Isaac and Alden Willis; and many more extended family and friends, who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Carrie Williams; father, James Hinton Monds, Jr., and brother, James Hinton Monds, III.

Crystal dedicated nearly 20 years to working with Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter in Plains, Georgia, where she formed lasting relationships and became deeply involved in the local community. Later in life, she pursued her passion for helping others, completing graduate school and transitioning into a career in counseling with South Georgia Technical College and Augusta Technical College.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Crystal was a lifelong lover of gardening and painting, hobbies that brought her immense joy. She spent many peaceful hours tending to her beautiful koi pond in retirement, while also enjoying yoga, crochet, and reading.

Her family and friends will remember Crystal for her kind heart, her warmth, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held for Crystal at Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, Georgia, on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., and the memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m.
