Courtnei Eleyse McCray

Courtnei Eleyse McCray, born July 20, 1985, in Augusta, GA, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in her hometown of Augusta at the age of 40. Her life, though cut short, touched all who knew her with warmth, compassion, and an enduring spirit.

Courtnei was the beloved daughter of Cheryl Smith and Michael Heady. Her strength and kindness reflected the love and guidance she received from her parents, values that she carried forward into every aspect of her life. She was also the devoted mother of Trey McCray, for whom she was a constant source of encouragement, love, and inspiration. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and she took immense pride in her role as a mother, daughter, and friend.

Rooted in Augusta from birth to her final days, Courtnei’s journey was marked by resilience and a generous heart. She forged deep connections in her community, creating lasting friendships and relationships anchored in loyalty and mutual respect. Though humble about her achievements, those who knew her admired her steadfast character and gentle humor.

Courtnei’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family: her loving mother; Cheryl Smith, her devoted father; Michael Heady, and her cherished daughter; Raylyn Tate and her beloved son; Trey Heady. They, along with all who had the privilege to call her family or friend, mourn her passing but celebrate the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of kindness, love, and grace.

A memorial service to honor Courtnei's life will be held on July 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Gardner Grove Baptist Church, located at 3511 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30909. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Courtnei are invited to gather in remembrance, celebrate her life, and share memories of the joy she brought to those around her.
