Mr. Charles D. “Chuck” Stone, beloved husband of 56 years of Verla Stone, entered into rest on Friday, March 3, 2023, at the age of 79.
Funeral services will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00PM on Friday, March 17, 2023.
Chuck was born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 14, 1943. He joined the US Air Force and proudly served his country for 20 years, including his service in the Vietnam War. After his military retirement, he went to work at the Savannah River Site until his second retirement. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed fishing, cheering on the Braves, reading science fiction books and making custom fishing rods. He volunteered at the Augusta Genealogical Society for several years. He was a member of many societies, including Jamestown Society, The Military Order of the Crusades, The Baronial Order of Magna Charta, The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, The Descendants of the Templar Knights and the Hereditary Order of the Families of the Presidents and First Ladies of America.
In addition to his wife, Verla, he is survived by his sons; Dennis Stone (Tracy) and Doug Stone (Carolyn), and his grandchildren; Christopher (Taylor), Cameron, Carter and Cason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Stone and Gertrude Smith Stone and his grandfather, Thomas Dewey Stone.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Chuck Stone to the Augusta Genealogical Society or the Disabled Veterans.
