Cecilia Ann Toole, a luminous beacon of legal acumen and compassion, passed away on May 16, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 70. Born on July 26, 1954, in Sumter, South Carolina, Cecilia’s journey was characterized by her unwavering dedication to the law and her profound commitment to the welfare of her clients.
Cecilia embarked on her illustrious career after earning her degree from the esteemed Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law. Her early professional life included an esteemed appointment as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Dudley H. Bowen, Jr. This formative experience laid the groundwork for her remarkable trajectory, which led her to New York City in the 1980s. There, she served with distinction as one of its Assistant Corporation Counsels, where her tenacity and intelligence began to carve a space for her in the demanding realm of legal practice.
After a fruitful chapter in New York, Cecilia returned to her cherished Georgia, stopping momentarily in Atlanta, where she lent her expertise to Drew, Echol & Farnham. Yet, it was upon returning to her hometown of Augusta that she truly flourished. Following a brief tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, she embraced her entrepreneurial spirit, establishing her own private law practice, specializing in Elder Law. For 46 years, she stood as a trusted advocate for her clients, combining legal prowess with heartfelt empathy – an embodiment of her belief that the law serves as a vital instrument of protection and dignity for the vulnerable.
Cecilia's legacy will be carried forward by her beloved family: her daughter, Jenna Canale, and her stepdaughter, Alexx Toni Flores, both of whom shared in her triumphs and were a source of her immense pride. She is also survived by her loving mother, Evie J. Toole, her brother Bobby Toole, his wife, Renee Toole, as well as her cherished niece, Jillian Toole.
