Mrs. Carolyn Russell Thompson, 91, wife for 59 years less three days of the late Robert O. Thompson, Sr., entered into rest on November 23, 2024 at Brandon Wilde. She was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA, and was educated in Augusta Schools and attended Augusta College. Mrs. Thompson was pre-deceased by her parents, Dorothy Readdy Russell and Preston Hartwell Russell, Sr., and her only sibling her brother, Preston H. Russell, Jr.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Rev. John Ross officiating. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until service time.

 Mrs. Thompson retired after 31 years at the Medical College of Georgia (currently Augusta University), the last 21 years being administrative manager for the Department of Ophthalmology. She was a longtime member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, a longtime member and past President of the Augusta Elks Auxiliary #205, a past member of the Golf Capital of ABWA, and several social groups. Mrs. Thompson loved all the members of her family, flowers, to go on auto and bus travel as well as cruises (over 33), to visit Biloxi and Las Vegas and other sites, and to see her granddaughter and great-grandchildren in Arkansas, her son if Florida, formerly Virginia, and her now deceased aunt in Maryland. She loved being “Honey” to her granddaughter and her husband and to her 7 great-grandchildren. She also especially loved the “Mother’s Day Out” she spent most weeks with her daughter who was also her best friend.

 Mrs. Thompson is survived by her son, Robert O. Thompson, Jr. and wife Norma of The Villages, FL and her daughter, Mary T. Gay and husband Butch of North Augusta, SC. Her grandson, Robert W. Bazemore, Jr. and wife Amy of Brunswick, MD and her granddaughter, Angel Thompson Peebles and husband Jammie of Locust Bayou, AR. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Trinity T. Peebles, Tristen D. Peebles, Elora F. Peebles and Emma Alice Bazemore. Step-grandchildren, Angie Gay Chagaris and Bill Gay and wife Randi; and step-great-grandchildren, Catherine and Nicole Chagaris and Andrew, Audrey and Lily Gay. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Jimmy J. Thompson and wife Doris of Augusta who is the last of the six Thompson boys as well as the other brother, cousin Ted (A.R.) Lane who lived with them, and a number of nieces and nephews from her brother and from her brothers-in-law. She is also survived by cousins from her late aunt Marjorie Landrum and uncle Edward Readdy.

 It has been requested that if so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in her memory to The Elks Aidmore Children’s’ Center, 2394 Morrison Road, Conyers, GA, 30094, or to the charity of their choice in her memory.
