Carolyn Stone Coule

July 1, 1944 — October 7, 2020

Mrs. Carolyn Stone Coule, beloved wife of Jerry Coule, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at The Sanctuary with the Rev. Bryan Cockrell officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service but request observance of social distancing and mask wearing.

Carolyn was born and raised in Benham, Kentucky, the daughter of a coal miner. As a young adult she moved to Georgia where she worked as a long-distance operator and met her husband Jerry. She left employment as an operator to work as a church organist and secretary at New Hope Worship Center until retiring. Her love of God, children, family, music and singing defined her life. Her favorite pastimes were singing with her sisters, playing the organ and listening to gospel music. Affectionately known as “Nanny”, her house was one where everyone could come to have a loving mother. Whether a foster child in need of love and shelter or the entire Boy Scout Troop that needed a “Troop Mom”, she was always known for her willingness to take a child in, love them like her own, and of course, feed them. Late in life her focus became her grandchildren, great grand children and caring for her husband of 56 years; always making sure there was enough of Nanny’s love to go around.

In addition to her husband, Jerry, she is survived by her children; Gyalia Coule Rutledge (Terry), Ricky Coule (Cindy) and Phillip Coule (Lynne), her siblings; Mary Joan, Herbert Stone (Delores) and Charlotte Courtney (Ken), as well as eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous foster children. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Douglas Stone and Delbert Stone.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
