Caroline Rachael Powell

Caroline Rachael Powell, age 70, of Harlem, GA, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2023.

Rachael was born in Aiken, SC to Sumpter and Sarah Powell on April 11, 1952. She attended Richmond County Schools her entire public school career.

An avid bowler, Rachael was involved in the Women’s International Bowling Congress, the American Bowling Congress and worked as league secretary for many bowling leagues in the CSRA over many years. She called Northside Lanes home as an employee for several years as well.

Rachael is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Alan Birchfield, her sister; Avaland Powell, and her grandson; Coby Plowden.

She is survived by her daughters; Sharon Welch Turner (Henry), Brandi Welch Shultz (Greg) and Dana Tiffany Williams (Michael), her sister; Betty Kirchheim, honorary sister; Rosamond Bennett, her grandchildren; Quinton Harris (Sara), Dawson Harris, Chancey Riggins (Dale), Garrett Williams, Wyatt Shultz, Ethan Shultz, Ty Turner, Heather Birchfield, Emerson Birchfield, Chase Birchfield, Chandler Birchfield and Lauren Birchfield, her great-grandchildren; MiKaela Harris, Blakely Riggins, and Coby Riggins, her nieces; Lisa “Jones” Hutcherson and Heather Olson and nephew; Sumpter Stephen “John” Newman. She had a large extended family and a great number of friends.

The family will receive guests from 11 AM - 1 PM Monday, January 9, 2023 at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Rd., Evans, GA. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 1 PM in the Chapel of Platt’s Funeral.
