Betty Ann Gantner Manfredonia, age 86, passed away on May 30, 2026. A native of the Bronx, N.Y., was the daughter of the late Josef and Mary (Feisthummel) Gantner, immigrants from Romania, and grew up alongside her older sister, the late Theresa Gantner Saunders.
Betty graduated from Dumont High School in Dumont, N.J., in 1957, later earning certification and working as a medical technologist in New York City until meeting the love of her life, Abraham Manfredonia. They were wed on Sept. 12, 1959, and went on to raise a family of five children in New Jersey and — after a leap of faith in 1975 — Evans, Georgia.
Betty was a woman of strong personality and an unmatched work ethic. She was the ultimate orchestrator, happiest when she was pulling the levers on any gathering and making sure things were done right (her way). She was a force of nature who made her opinions clearly known and fiercely protected who she loved. While she possessed a fiery temper and a vivid persona that could shake the room like a sudden storm, her dedication to her family was absolute. She was a longtime medical assistant and office manager in Augusta.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 67 years, Abraham Manfredonia; two daughters and sons-in law, Alisa and Michael Phelan of Appling, GA; and Maria and Jason Lameiras of Lawrenceville, GA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Laura Manfredonia of Little River, S.C.; Adam and Lori Manfredonia of Agoura Hills, CA; and Steven and Kristi Manfredonia of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Chelsea (Ronnie) McMahan of Pooler, GA; Chloe (Damien) Lucree, Augusta, GA; Josef (Roshni) Manfredonia, of San Mateo, CA; Thomas Manfredonia of Santa Monica, CA; Peter (Valeria) Manfredonia, Washington, D.C.; Jacob, Phillip and Dell Lameiras of Lawrenceville, GA; and John Paul Manfredonia of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren Jackson, Tabb, Brighton, Sutton, Josephine, Maddie, Cal and Tejas; a niece, Laurel Pastor, and a nephew, Jeffrey Saunders. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Mary; and her sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Godfrey Saunders.
