Rev. Berry Vernon Wren

Rev. Berry Vernon Wren, age 81, of Grovetown, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, Rev. Wren was born on June 11th, 1945, the son of the late Curtis Berry and Leone Miller Wren. Rev. Wren graduated from The University of Georgia in 1967 with a degree in Business Administration. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Evans as a rural mail carrier with over 28 years of service. He was baptized in 1972 and ordained and called to preach in 1975 while attending Abilene Baptist Church. He served as bi-vocational pastor of Fairmont Baptist Church in Sparta, Georgia for over 43 years, as well as serving 3 years at Culverton Baptist Church. Berry officiated many family weddings, as well as baptisms. He was a people person having never met a stranger. Very often he would visit the sick and elderly at home or in care facilities to comfort and pray with them. He loved everyone. He was married to his life long love Dawn Hunt Wren for 60 years. After working in Evans, Berry and Dawn retired to their vacation home at Edisto Beach, South Carolina where they both enjoyed many coastal activities. He loved fishing, shrimping and hunting for sharks teeth. This led to another favorite activity that he loved, a Fish Fry! He loved cooking his catch for large crowds of family and friends. Berry loved to travel with his wife, taking short weekend trips often while enjoying the sites and new restaurants. He was an avid reader, a bird watcher and a tremendous College football fan. He also loved his full time job at the local island Golf Course at Wyndham where he worked for many years. He loved his dogs, Duke and Daisy, who were surely there to greet him in heaven.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mrs. Dawn Hunt Wren. A son Curtis Kevin Wren, and daughter Wendy Wren Strach, husband Eric, two granddaughters, Alexis Strach Ma, husband Jian, Haley Strach, and a great grandson Daniel Strach Ma. Pallbearers will be Jian Ma, Eric Strach, Larry Dale Williams, Doug Barton, Greg Barton and Chase Harold.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Platts Funeral Home on Belair Road.

Funeral services for Rev. Wren will be conducted after visitation at 3 p.m. from the Belair Chapel of Platts Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
