Barbara Nissen

Barbara Nissen passed away on December 3, 2025, in Evans, Georgia, at the age of 94. She was born on November 6, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, and lived a long life defined by her strength and perseverance.

Barbara earned her bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Iowa State University. After completing her education, she spent many years working as a secretary at University Presbyterian Church, where she supported the day-to-day work of the congregation and became a steady presence in the church community.

She was also a member of PEO, an organization focused on supporting women through educational opportunities.

Beyond her professional life, Barbara had a variety of hobbies and passions which included crafting, square dancing, and a love for animals.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Steven Nissen and David Nissen; her sister, Linda Ruff; and her grandchildren, Rachel Nissen-Uphouse and Mark Nissen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Nissen; her mother, Gwendolin Nissen; her father, C. Keith Lee; her daughter, Kristi Ann Nissen; and her sister, Carol Libey.

Throughout her life, Barbara crossed paths with many people, and her strength was always evident. At the Brandon Wilde community, the staff and caregivers came to know her well, and she quickly became someone everyone loved. Her presence will be deeply missed.
