Listen to Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Jean Allen, wife of the late L.D. Allen, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Revela of Evans at the remarkable age of 92.

A memorial service to celebrate her wonderful life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 11, 2026, in the chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road.

Mrs. Allen was born to Louis J. Henley and Nauvia Atwell Henley in Andalusia, Alabama. She was one of four children. In the early 1950’s, she met L.D. Allen and they were married in 1954. His job took him all over the country, but they finally settled down in the Augusta area to raise their family.

She spent over 9 decades spreading joy, wisdom, and comfort to everyone she met. To her family, she was our safe place, a source of comfort, and our unwavering support. She taught us resilience, hard work, faith, and the ability to persevere when at our lowest. Her generous heart and quick wit truly made her unique and her strength was an inspiration to us all. She loved flowers and gardening and had a special gift for nurturing things, turning simple spaces into vibrant, blooming areas of color. When younger, she loved to read and as an adult, she traveled to the places she had read about. She had a deep love for traveling, always eager to explore new places, cultures, and experiences. She traveled to Canada, Alaska and Hawaii, plus many of the continental states, in addition to many of the islands in the Caribbean. Whether near or far, each journey added to the stories she cherished and shared with those around her.

She is survived by her children, Tommy Lopatka and Lynette Trainor (Matt), her grandchildren, Spencer Johnson and Tommy Trainor, and her great grandchildren, Evan, Bel and Dennis. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Allen, her daughter, Patty Allen, her parents, Louis and Nauvia Henley, and her siblings, Buster Henley, Obie Henley and Orbadee Henley.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at American Cancer Society or to National AMBUCS at ambucs.org.
