Augusta, GA---Mr. Wilmer Ansley, 94, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at North Fulton Hospital, in Roswell, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 19, 2010, in the Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Reverend Mike Catoe and Joseph Dansby officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Mr. Ansley was a native of Harlem, Georgia and was a longtime resident of Augusta. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army Air Force. Mr. Ansley was shot down over Yugoslavia and received the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
Mr. Ansley was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie O. Ansley, in 1997.
Survivors include, his wife, Anne Smith Ansley of Augusta, son, Frederick W. Ansley and wife Carol of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Pamela Ansley Evans and husband, Christopher J. of Roswell, GA, granddaughters, Jennifer Ansley Evans of Atlanta, GA, Laura Elizabeth Evans of Jackson, MS and Kristi McCabe Hunt and husband Mark of Alpharetta, GA, grandsons, Frederick W. Ansley, Jr. of Augusta and Jack McCabe and wife Michelle of Roswell, GA, step-daughters, Joan Mills and husband, John G. and Cheryl Sanders and husband, Willis all of Augusta and nine step grandchildren, Scott Dedman, Julie Miller, Tommy Lane, John H. Mills, Lonnie Mills, Michael Mills, Rachael Wiggins, Melissa Chesser and Robyn Brantley.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Friday, November 19, 2010 from 10:00 am until the time of services, at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Paul Ansley, Woody Ansley, Jimmy Carrick, Scott Dedman, John Herman Mills and Wayne Ansley.
