Wayne Compton

Evans, GA – Wayne Compton, 71, entered into rest on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Rev. Rebecca Jones and Dr. Jake Malone officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Mr. Compton will lie in state one hour prior to service time.

Wayne retired from the State of Georgia Department of Transportation where he worked as a civil engineer. After retirement, he graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts from Augusta Tech, and was offered a teaching position there. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret B. Compton of Evans, GA, two daughters, Dana Compton McCullough and husband Robert of Augusta, GA, Dory Compton Moore and husband Scott of Westminster, SC, three grandchildren, Anthony Layne McCullough, Matthew Casey McCullough, and Nathan Isaac Moore.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Andy Bridges, Buddy Webb, Danny Cleland, Donnie Powell, Jerry Hall, and Larry Compton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Caring Coed Sunday School Class.
