Augusta, GA---Mrs. Vivian W. Mitchell, 72, beloved wife of 54 years, of Elwood A. Mitchell, Jr., went home to be with her Lord, on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services and a celebration of her life, will be held at Curtis Baptist Church, on Monday, June 8, 2009, at 3:30 pm, with Reverend Sherrell Dunn and Dr. J. Eddie West officiating. Interment services will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Vivian Mitchell was born on December 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Heggie B. and Darrene Whitaker, of Harlem, GA. She retired from Lily Tulip Cup Corporation after 39 years of service. She was a member of Curtis Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren and she cherished them, as well as the times with her family, working in her yard, cooking and her Pomeranian friend, Lady. She was known by all, as a righteous and faithful prayer warrior. We’ll miss that faithfulness.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Nancy M. Haywood, of Martinez, GA and Kathy M. Tenenbaum (David), of Alpharetta, GA and her son, Zackery A. Mitchell, of Augusta, GA. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Stephanie Haywood, Hilton Head, SC, Stephen Haywood (Julie), North Augusta, SC, Michaela Mitchell and Jessica Mitchell, both of Lexington, SC, Jeffrey Tenenbaum, Joseph Tenenbaum and Joanie Tenenbaum, all of Alpharetta, GA. She was the oldest of ten children, preceded in death by sister, Ann Anderson and is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Edward Whitaker, Ervin Whitaker, Van Inglett, Velma Sager, Vanessa McCorkle, Dillie Hollimon, Runy Whitaker and Wayne Whitaker, several nieces, nephews and numerous other family and friends.
Mrs. Mitchell will be deeply missed, by all those left to cherish her memory.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude, to the following for their services, care and compassion; Dr. Michael Cohen and staff, Dr. David Curtis and staff, Dr. Marc Smith and staff, the doctors, nurses and staff of Trinity Hospital, the doctors, nurses and staff of the Vascular Surgical Center and the nurses and staff of Trinity Hospice.
The family will receive friends, at Curtis Baptist Church on Monday, June 8, 2009 prior to the service, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Pallbearers will be Dannie Allmond, Kenneth Hollimon, Paul Inglett, David Tenenbaum, Jeffrey Tenenbaum and Stephen Haywood.
