Augusta, GA – Mr. Thomas Dabney Hegler, Sr., 87, beloved husband of 62 years of the late Mrs. Lucille Bowers Hegler, entered into rest on Monday, September 8, 2008 at University Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Martinez Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Winsett officiating. Mr. Hegler will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park.
A native of Lancaster County, SC, Mr. Hegler made his home in Augusta since 1953. He retired from E.I. duPont at SRS in 1978 after 25 years service. He was a member of the Martinez Baptist Church and a former deacon. He was also a member of the Belvedere Masonic Lodge #388 and D.H. Byce Sunday School class. Mr. Hegler worked on the construction of the Clarks Hill Dam Project and also with North Carolina Shipbuilding and Drydock, Co. during World War II in Wilmington, NC.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane E. Hegler of North Augusta; five sons, Timothy M. Hegler of Belvedere, SC, Thomas D. Hegler, Jr. of Kline, SC, Arnold S. Hegler of Southport, NC, Patrick H. Hegler of Bamberg, SC, and Robert W. Hegler of Augusta, GA; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Maude Hegler as well as his nine brothers.
Pallbearers will be Shan Hegler, Rusty Hegler, Dustin Hegler, Jay Guerrieri, Joseph Guerrieri, and Jason Yonally.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the D.H. Byce Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, September 11, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road.
