AUGUSTA – Mrs. Sarah E. Sumner, 86, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 19, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Marks Baptist Church with the Reverend Hal Hodgens and Chaplain Paul Ellis officiating. She will lie in state one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sumner was born December 5, 1926 in Wrightsville, Georgia. She was one of eight children born to Horace Elmer and Maude Blount. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them on many occasions. She was a music lover, and “Mamoo” as she was affectionately called, will be loved, missed and always remembered for her kindness.
She is survived by eight children, David (Jackie) Hattaway of Martinez, Charlotte Sumner of Martinez, Jimmy (Debbie) Hattaway of Augusta, Steve (Sarah) Sumner of Blackshear, Robert (Fran) Sumner of Dearing, Joe (Cathy) Sumner of Grovetown, Gary (Janet) Sumner of Augusta, and Terry (Julie) Sumner. She is also survived by two sisters, Nandell Claxton of Wrightsville and Janice Allred of Eatonton, as well as fifteen grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Sumner Sr.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, November 21, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
