Sara Miller

Sara Miller, age 100, of Appling, entered into rest on August 27, 2021 due to complications of COVID that she contracted along with her daughter, Carol. Sara and Carol, who passed away less than a week apart, were each other's constant companions.

Sara was born in Smyrna, GA to the late George Carver Smith and Mary Lizbeth Moon Smith. She was the epitome of a senior Naval officer’s wife and enjoyed hosting parties on behalf of her husband Donald who retired as a Naval Commander. Sara loved the Lord and she played an active role at Abilene Baptist Church where her family often filled an entire pew on Sunday mornings. “Grandma Sara” was known to send the great grandchildren home with chocolates and she was often found in front of an old western movie enjoying a bowl of ice cream.

Sara was a woman full of grace and resilience who leaves a legacy of strength and perseverance for her granddaughters, great granddaughters, and great-great granddaughters.

In addition to her parents and daughter, Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, CDR Donald A. Miller, USN, Ret.

Sara is survived by her son, Daniel “Danny” Miller (Robbye). She was loved and adored as “Grandma Sara” by her grandchildren, Kelly Crocker (Kenneth), Mandy Slater (Gary), Toni Tiedeman (Danny), Steven Griggs (Teri), Jeremy Griggs (Emily), and Dr. Jessica Miller Vergamini (Mike), 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grand children.

A double service for Sara and her daughter Carol will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA with Dr. William F. Harrell officiating. Interment will be private in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. The service will livestreamed at, www.plattsfuneralhome.com.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
