Augusta, GA - Ms. Sara A. Martin entered into rest on Thursday April 9, 2009 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her mother. Sara is survived by her father, Eric Martin of Rome, Georgia; her sister, Jane Martin of Denver, Colorado; her brother, Eric Martin of Atlanta, Georgia and her aunt, Maureen Martin of Rome, Georgia.

Sara attended the University of Georgia and The Medical College of Georgia. She graduated from MCG with honors in 1978 with a BS in Radiologic Technologies and earned her registry credentials in X-Ray and Ultrasound. She was a pioneer in the field of Ultrasound in the state of Georgia. She began work at MCG’s OB/GYN Department in 1978 and then worked at Augusta GYN for over 28 years. Sara was a friend and colleague to the Augusta GYN family and will be greatly missed. She also became known throughout the region including Savannah for OB sonograms, aka Sara-grams. Sara is considered the most knowledgeable and well-respected obstetrical and gynecological sonographer in the CSRA.

In 1985, Sara purchased her first English Springer Spaniel. With the Springer people Sara met through Domino, she soon became interested in breeding and showing the spaniels. She first bred under the Calypso prefix and later under the S’cess prefix in partnership with her good friend Shirley Van Camp. She successfully raised and showed English Springer Spaniels to their AKC Championships for many years. Sara was a long time member of the Augusta Kennel Club where she held many offices. Her knowledge was extensive about The American Kennel Club Delegate. She attended the American Kennel Club meetings in New York and represented the Augusta Kennel Club and helped promote the sport of purebred dogs. Her knowledge and friendship will be missed by the members of the Augusta Kennel Club and many in the dog show community.

Sara was a loved and respected member of the CSRA Bridge Club and will be greatly missed by her many friends and bridge partners. She was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors of District 202 where she represented the club in her unique style. Sara was enthusiastic in working with tournaments, compassionate in helping peers achieve Lifemaster status, and capable enough to do whatever was asked of her. She was a Silver Lifemaster who was knowledgeable, dedicated, and a devotee of the game of bridge. She also enjoyed playing bridge online with her dad which kept them connected.

A memorial service is planned for the end of May in Augusta.
