COL(R) Robert W. Thomas, US Army Retired
Evans – COL(R) Robert W. Thomas, 68, beloved husband of Carol Thomas, entered into rest Thursday morning, December 11, 2014 at his residence after a hard fought battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, then leukemia, and finally pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
COL Thomas was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served 34 years in the United States Army. In Vietnam he served with the First Calvary Division. He went on to earn a PhD in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia and served as an Army Psychologist. After Army retirement, he worked at East Georgia Regional Hospital in Augusta. He was a former Eagle Scout and raised in Flat River, Missouri. He was an active member of Wesley UMC, took part in many ministries of the church, and was part of the Journeys Sunday School class. He was a world traveler, a bicyclist, a history enthusiast, and a good Christian man.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his sons; COL Robert J. Thomas (Michele) and Ian Thomas (Amy), his grandchildren; Brittainy and Madison Thomas and Savanna Rachel, his sister; Barbara O’Brien, his brother in law and sister in law; Ron and Joyce Pettus, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the US Army honor guard, and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Journeys Sunday School class.
Flowers are appreciated, and if so desired memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 825 North Belair Road, Evans, Georgia, 30809.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, December 14, 2014 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM.
