MR. ROBERT PADGETT
AUGUSTA-Mr. Robert Padgett, 80, beloved husband of Sue Padgett, entered into rest on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Doctors Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Martinez Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Winsett, Rev. Frank Mebane, and Rev. Joseph Soparas officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Padgett served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked at DuPont, which became the Savannah River Site. He retired from there in 1993 after 38 years of service. He was past Master of the Masons Social Lodge #1, past Patron of both the Elizabeth Chapter #43 and Martinez Chapter #464 of the Eastern Star, as well as past District Grand Deputy of District 26 Eastern Star. He was also Grand Representative to Saskatchewan, Canada, was active with the International Order of the Rainbow Girls. He served on the advisory board of the Dorothy Walton Assembly # 33 for many years, and received the Grand Cross of Color in 1988.
He and his wife, Sue, had just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Nancy Padgett, and Molly P. Boyleston (Peter) both of Martinez, a sister, Reba Murray of Savannah and a grandchild, Tyler Boyleston. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Christy Smoak, Kelly Harris, Erik Harris, Shawn Harris, John Padgett and Valerie Knight, as well as several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Eulaween Padgett, and his brother, John L. Padgett.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hewett, Epps Hewett, Jimmie Mize, Ernest Towner, Sammy Clark and Joe Price. Honorary pallbearers will be members of area Masonic Lodges and Orders of the Eastern Star, as well as Bill Anderson, George McGee, Richard Hewett and Al Niver.
The family would like to thank the staff at Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, Brandon Wilde Pavilion, Regency Hospice, Winyah Home Health care and Doctors Hospital.
