Minnie Mcpherson Rinker

Augusta, GA---Mrs. Minnie McPherson Rinker, 102, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at her residence.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 3:00 pm, at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Reverend Doctor J. Andrew Menger officiating.
Mrs. Rinker was born on August 23, 1907 in Abbeville, LA, to Lillie Moss McPherson and Jesse Franklin McPherson. She graduated from the Touro Infimary School of Nursing in New Orleans and worked as a Registered Nurse in the New Orleans area, before her marriage. After moving to Augusta with her husband in 1943, she was active in several organizations. She was a charter member of the Medical College of Georgia’s Faculty Wives Club and the Augusta Chapter of Ikabana International. She was also a member of the Wildwood Garden Club, Richmond County Medical Auxiliary, St. Margaret’s Circle of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the “Sewing Club” and the Augusta Country Club. Her real loves were her family, friends, her flowers and her yard.
Mrs. Rinker was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Rinker, MD, her daughter, Carolyn Tate, her sisters, Sybil and Isabel McPherson, Emma Lou Buteaud, Laura Davis, Lyn Blanchard and her parents.
Surviving her are her children, Geraldine Rinker, EdD, Augusta, GA, George Rinker, MD (Barbara Blackwelder), Burlington, NC and Franklin Rinker (Caryl Day) of Braselton, GA, son in law, David Tate, MD (Phyllis Morgan), Winston-Salem, NC and grandchildren, Lillian Rinker, MD (Bentley Burnham), Memphis, TN, Elizabeth Rinker, DVM (Keith Gogel), Belmont, NC, Verne Rinker, JD, Silver Spring, MD, John R. Rinker, MD (Erika Hille), Birmingham, AL, Laura McDaniel (Jamie), Winston-Salem, NC, Robert Tate (Debra Long), Athens, GA and Sybil Tate, Carrboro, NC and great grandchildren, Barbara Kathryn, Wyatt and David Burnham, George and Jacob Gogel, Clara and Klaus Rinker and Leighton and Parker McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904 or the Carolyn Rinker Tate Child Life Fund at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
