Michael “Worm” Hensley, 78, of Augusta, GA, entered eternal life on July 13, 2022. Michael was born on October 13th, 1943 in Augusta, Ga. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin J. Hensley and Hattie Rhodes Hensley; brothers, Russell Hensley and Howard Hensley; one sister, Helen Ghann, sister-in-law, Janice Coker Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Wilma Marie (Coker) Hensley. In addition to his wife, family members include a host of nieces and nephews.

Michael's family was very dear to his heart. Michael worked at the Augusta Chronicle for 31 years. He started working for the newspaper delivering newspapers as a young man and worked his way up to typing the classified ads until he retired after 31 years of service. He received employee of the month several times during the 31 years he was employed there. Michael was an ordained minister in the Baptist conference, for many years. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

But life for him has not ended, as he took his last breath with his loving wife and family members gathered around his bedside. Marie knew that life for him had just begun in a land with no more pain or sorrow.

Michael was a dedicated member of Lake Park Baptist Church. Michael and Marie had no children of their own but through the years they mentored many children, including a lot of their nieces and nephews. Michael had a love for his cats especially his cat named Angel that passed away in 2016 at the age of 19.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be Monday, July 18, 2022 at the chapel of Platt's Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Ave, Augusta, Ga. The family would also like to thank Michael's nephew, Clay Ghatt, for all he has done to help this family in their hour of need.
