Mary Margaret Thomas Churton

October 4, 1913 — July 13, 2010

Mrs. Mary Thomas Churton

Augusta, GA – Mary Margaret Thomas Churton was gratefully reunited with her husband early Tuesday morning while she was sleeping peacefully.

A homecoming service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Bath Presbyterian Church, 3910 Bath Edie Road in Blythe, GA 30805 with the Reverend Richard Geiselman officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Churton was the wife of Chaplain Daniel B. Churton and the mother of Norma Lynne Churton, both deceased.

She is survived by her son, John T. Churton, and her grandsons, Scott Evan Higgins and John Daniel “Kenny” Churton.

Born October 4, 1913 in Columbus, Ohio, she arrived with her family in Augusta in 1953 and spent 25 years as a medical secretary at the Lenwood Division of the V.A. Hospital on Wrightsboro Road. Raised a Presbyterian, she was a member of Bath Presbyterian Church in Blythe, GA; an associate member of Lexington Presbyterian Church in Lexington, GA; a member of the Augusta Rose Society, and an alumni of Ohio State University.

A Proverbs 31 wife, she brought honor to Christ by submitting to her husband’s leadership, respecting, obeying, praising, and honoring him as instructed in Ephesians 5:21,22,&33. An industrious woman, she somehow always managed to prepare a full course meal every night in a hot kitchen and a home with no air conditioning. What surprised us the most was her terrific sense of humor.

Pallbearers will be David Hagan, Andy Hundley, Harper Parks, Charles Gay, Scott E.W. Higgins (great-grandson).

If so desired memorials may be made to Bath Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 976, Hephzibah, GA 30815.
