Martha "Jean" Culpepper

April 10, 1935 — February 26, 2023

Martha Jean Culpepper, 87, Augusta, GA, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

Jean was born in Wrens, GA to Clarence and Elsie Culpepper on April 10, 1935. However, the majority of her time was spent living in Augusta. She attended Richmond Academy.

Jean worked in many roles over the years. She was a candy girl at the Miller Theater in the 50’s, she worked at the Augusta Radio and TV Company, Marbut Milling Company and was a paraprofessional for over 20 years at A. Brian Merry Elementary School.

Jean was a member of Hill Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing golf with her “beloved Pete” and loved the Masters. She loved music and had an extensive record collection. Jean was passionate about Georgia Bulldogs football and could be found watching games on television or listening on the radio. She and Pete spent their time shopping, going to movies every week and traveling. Jean had a passion for animals, but nothing compared to her love for her cat, Christmas.

Jean is survived by her nephew, Chuck Culpepper; niece, Gail (Lee) Webster; great-nieces and nephews, Chase (Jessy) Beazley, Whitney Webster, Beau Webster, Hannah (Kenny) Kitchens, Holley Phillips and great-great-nieces and nephews, Jackson Beazley, Drew Phillips and Ali Phillips.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wren Culpepper, sister-in-law, Phyllis Culpepper; Chuck’s wife, Rhonda and longtime companion, Pete.
