MSG Steve Smith, USA, Ret., age 65 entered into rest on Sunday, February 28, 2021 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Steve was born in Brentwood, Maryland and proudly served in the United States Army retiring as Master Sergeant. Steve was quite the entertainer and enjoyed playing his guitar. When he wasn’t making his family laugh, or being a dedicated “Pappy,” Steve was probably somewhere fishing.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Robinson Smith; his son, John Smith; his sister, Robin Smith; and his father-in-law, SgtMaj, Claudie G. Lott, USA, Ret.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Jeanette Smith of Grovetown; father, William Smith of Brentwood, Maryland; three children, Nikki Grimes (Jay) Milledgeville, Erik Smith of Grovetown, and Clayton Smith of Demorest; three grandchildren and the lights of his life, Elin Grimes, John Lane Grimes, and Maddux Smith; mother-in-law, Kirsten Bennett (Raymond) of Kapolei, Hawaii; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Steve will also be greatly missed by his two canine companions, Macy and Beau.
A celebration of Steve’s life and service will take place at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 5, 2021 in the Chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service at the residence.
