Lourdes Mary Richart

Lourdes Mary Richart or “Loulie” as she was fondly called by her mother, was born on August 8, 1956. She entered her eternal rest just three months prior to her 67th birthday and exactly four days shy of the one-year anniversary of her mother’s death. Her unusual name was mispronounced regularly, so she became adept at responding to almost anything! Even those closest to her called her by different names including Lourdie, Lora, and Laura.

Lourdes was a graduate of Augusta College with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Medical technology was her chosen profession, and she worked for many years in that field prior to her retirement due to numerous health issues. In recent years, she became completely bedridden and required a great deal of personal assistance. Despite her infirmities, and maybe because of them, even on her darkest days, Lourdes possessed a facetious wit, and a ready, infectious smile which immediately made one feel at ease in her presence.

She was fiercely loyal to her friends, a lover of nature, of cooking, of beautiful things, the British royals and any creature that moved…especially guinea pigs! Many of her paintings reflected the beauty she saw around her.

Lourdes was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. James (Santiago) Richart and Dr. Silvia Garcia Richart, and is survived by her brother, Dr. Charles Manuel Richart (Jacque) of Suwanee, GA and their children, Alexandra Maria Richart and James Andrew Richart in addition to Susan and Harold Simon of Birmingham, Alabama, and her long-time care giver Earthel Roberson, whom “Lora” affectionately named “Old Heifer”.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30904, Dr. Harold E. Simon officiating.
