John Walton Wren Jr, 91, entered into rest on Friday, December 25, 2020.
A native of Augusta, he was born to the late John Walton Wren, Sr. and Mary Parish Wren. Walton worked for the Richmond County Board of Education for more than 20 years, and attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 24 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. Walton was also a member of the Richmond Reelers square dancers. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, and for the way he liked to pick at his family.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Oppegard.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy Wren; seven children, Darlene Walters of Augusta, Ga, Patti Sellers (Billy) of Baxley, Ga, Chris McClain (Willie) of Augusta, Ga, Johnny Wren (Pam) of Carrolton, Ga, Bobby Wren of Hephzibah, Ga, Jason Wren of Albany, Ga, and Jennifer Hale (Jeff) of Martinez, Ga; two sisters, Katherine Russell and Jeanette Pate; 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; and his faithful canine friend, Sammy.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with Reverend Greg Porterfield officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
