Augusta, GA. – Mr. John Lee “Jim” Mitchell, Jr., 85, entered into rest on Monday, July 11, 2011 at The Georgia War Veteran’s Nursing Home.

A memorial service, with military honors, will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 6:00 pm at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Inurnment will be in Asheville, N.C. at a later date.

Mr. Mitchell was a native of Atlanta, Georgia, reared in Asheville, North Carolina, and spent his adult life in Augusta. He was an avid skeet sportsman and a member of the Pinetucky Gun Club. He also loved to garden. He was on the founding committee of SRP Federal Credit Union, where he served as Chairman of the Board for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, as well as a member of the George Walton Masonic Grand Lodge #699 and the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Augusta, where he attained the honor of 32rd degree Mason.

He is survived by his loving wife, Caroline B. Mitchell, his two sons, John Stephen Mitchell and wife, Aurilla and Joseph Lee Mitchell and wife, Karen, his grandchildren, Matthew J. Mitchell and Caroline E. Rawlins, a sister, Elizabeth M. Hendrix, and his beloved twin dachshunds, Charlie and Andrew.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, Georgia, 30904.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until service time.
