John F. Powell Iii

Mr. John F. Powell III, age 80, husband of the late Josephine S. “Jo” Powell entered into rest on Friday, August 6, 2021.

Mr. Powell served in the United States Air Force and was the owner of Modern Finance Loan Company downtown for many years where his laugh and smile always lit up the room.

He enjoyed showing off his unique motorhomes and watching his daughter show horses. He was her biggest fan and would do anything for her. Her heart is broken without him, but he is at peace with his wife, Jo.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents John Ferdon Powell, Jr. and Bonteen Powell; and sister, Jane Powell.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Licklider and husband, Brian; brother in law, Tommy Smith and wife, Connie; sister in law, Betty Reynolds; honorary son, Charles Booth; step granddaughter, Lauren Licklider Timmons, and husband Chris; three great grandchildren, CJ, Cash, and his little helper Caroline who loved sitting with her grandfather.

The family would like to thank the Sherrod family for their support during this time and Sandra Lamb Stewart for her friendship.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Monday at Platt’s Belair Road.

A graveside service will take place at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 in Westover Memorial Park. Pastor Malone Morris will officiate.
