AUGUSTA, GA - Jeanne Teresa Cooney, daughter of the late John Francis Cooney and Ellen Joy Cooney, entered into rest on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Trinity Hospital.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Mary On The Hill Catholic Church with burial following at Westover Memorial Park.

A native of Augusta, Miss Cooney was a devoted aunt, friend and adopted mother to many. A graduate of Mt. St. Joseph High School for girls and St. Vincent Nursing School in Jacksonville, FL, she received her Register Nursing degree and served at St. Joseph Hospital for 38 years mostly in the Operating Room. She was a member of St. Mary On The Hill Catholic Church, the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernian Society, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, and the Irish American Heritage Society which recognized her as an Irish American Lady of the Year. Jeanne enjoyed spending her time in the garden at her home and traveling.

She is survived by one brother, John Francis Cooney, Jr. of Atlanta and two sisters, Catherine Joy Cooney of Washington, DC and Ellen Mulherin Cooney of Augusta, several nieces and nephews and many adopted children.

Active Pallbearers are Mike Grady, P.J. Stager, Ken Stager, Hank Wright, Starr Wright, Pat Douglas, John Flythe, and Kevin Cooney.

Honorary Pallbearers are Yank McCarty, Jerry Matheis, Dr. William Neumann, Dr. Robert Hill, Dr. Ray Johnson, Dr. Craig Kerins, Ferris Dorr, Jack Markwalter, Horace Duncan, Dr. Dennis Jones and Pete Stager and are asked to meet at the church by 10:15 am on Monday.
