Augusta,GA.-James Walton Rushing, Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. He is preceded in death by his parents, C.D. Rushing and Maggie Lanier Rushing and a brother C.D. (Rusty) Rushing of Register, Ga. He was born in Bulloch County and was a graduate of Nevils High School and completed a business degree in Atlanta, Ga. He was a World War II veteran and proudly served his country with the United States Coast Guard in the South Pacific. He moved to Augusta in January, 1952, where he was employed at E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant and later was in automobile sales and management for 45 years with Harison-Gulley Chevrolet and Pontiac Master. Mr. Rushing was a devoted husband for 59 years to his wife, Rean Oglesby Rushing. Together they raised 2 children and loved and cherished 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, family members include a daughter, Stephanie R. Jackson (Wayne) and a son, James W. Rushing, Jr. (Donna) all of Evans, GA, grandchildren, Ashley J. Wahl (Christian) Evans, GA, Katie J. Martin (Jeramie) Cumming, GA, Matthew Jackson (Jordanne) Roswell, GA, Anna Grace Jackson, Evans, GA, James W. Rushing III (Jennifer) Evans, GA, Chandler R. Schofield (Paul) Ella Ville, GA, and Tory L. Rushing, US Navy, San Diego, CA. He is also survived by a sister, Mary R. Wynn and husband, Ed, of Brooklet, GA, a brother, Franklin Rushing and wife, Wylene, of Register, GA, and a number of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Mr. Rushing was a faithful and beloved member of Faith Community Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2009,in the Belair Rd.Chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home at 12:00 noon with Reverend Wayne Jackson officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening, December 8, 2009 from 6 until 8 pm. The Rushing family expresses their gratitude for the love and care shown to their husband and father by the 3rd floor nursing staff at GA War Veterans Nursing Home.
